Freestyle Insulinx Blood Glucose Meter Review
FREESTYLE INSULINX REVIEW
Result range 20-
You can reapply blood in 60 seconds
Abbott Diabetes Care -
The first touch screen glucose monitor on the market.
You can entry information in logbook as before meal or after meal + insulin dosages.
Select a picture for home screen.
Reminder to check your blood sugar.
USB to upload data from meter.
Result is accurate, this is what is most important but design is missing the point.
Size of the meter is large.
Color of the screen is black and white.
Resolution and brightness are not great. I will call dark. Yes, you can turn light on for screen and for a test strip, it still looks dark.
Touch screen is not responded well to touch
By analyzing market situation of glucometers, I feel that Abbott Diabetes Care was pushed to bring a new type of glucometer that nobody has. In this case they were going in the right direction, touch screen option. One of the biggest drawbacks is dark screen (black and white). The idea about touch screen was directed by biomarketing, but functionality of the touch screen was not great.
Why do you need pictures for home screen? Sorry, no idea. What is really great is software. When you connect meter to computer it will run installation of software. Software is great, very nice reports, easy to understand. Manual is easy to follow. Kit comes with control solution, you can check if meter is operated ok.
I like FreeStyle meter and keep as back up, only because it requires less blood and I do trust test strips quality. With all available technology why not to make color screen with more responsible to touch. Abbot needs to add more choices not only before and after meals. Remove useless staff, such as home screen pictures. I think if Abbott built meter with color screen + more responsible touch screen – I’m sure t:slim insulin pump will go with them rather than with OneTouch Verio. Maybe they will introduce the second version of this model. I’ll add more information on this page what I really would like to see from the company in a new version of this meter.
This meter has huge potential for growth, it depends on how Abbott will utilize it.
